Graphic Designer

Status: Hourly, non-exempt
Position Type: Full-Time, 35-40 hrs/wk
Reports To: Marketing Coordinator

Background:

Musical Theatre West is an arts leader in one of the most culturally rich and diverse areas in the United States. Our community has launched us into a leading professional, award-winning regional theatre with national recognition. For nearly 75 years we have been a champion of introducing broader audiences to Broadway caliber musical theatre in Southern California. Our mission is to enrich the community with Broadway-quality productions, preserve musical theatre as a unique American art form and expose people of all backgrounds to the  excitement of musical theatre.

Responsibilities:

The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing and producing high-quality print and digital marketing materials that support Musical Theatre West’s productions, education programs, fundraising efforts, special events, and community engagement initiatives. Working closely with the Marketing Coordinator, this position ensures a consistent visual identity across all marketing channels while supporting the organization’s social media presence through creative content and design.

Primary Areas of Responsibility Include:

Graphic Design
  • Design print and digital marketing materials, including season brochures, postcards, posters, flyers, banners, production programs, signage, advertisements, invitations, email graphics, and promotional collateral
  • Resize, format, and adapt production artwork into multiple formats for print, digital advertising, website, email, and social media
  • Prepare production-ready files for printers, publications, and vendors
  • Maintain consistency with Musical Theatre West’s visual identity and brand standards
Creative Content
  • Design graphics, animations, and digital promotional assets for social media and marketing campaigns
  • Edit photography for marketing use
  • Organize and maintain MTW’s digital asset library
Social Media Support
  • Create platform-specific graphics and creative assets for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Stay current on design and social media trends to help create engaging content.
Cross-Department Creative Services
  • Serve as the primary graphic designer for Marketing, Development, Education-Outreach, Production, Special Events, and Community Engagement
  • Complete creative requests through the marketing request process while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2–4 years of professional graphic design experience.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Canva.
  • Experience designing for both print and digital media.
  • Strong typography, layout, branding, and visual communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or After Effects.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms.
  • Illustration or motion graphics experience is a plus.
  • Passion for theatre, live entertainment, or the performing arts.
Special Environmental Factors:
  • Fast-paced, collaborative office environment with occasional evening and weekend hours required during productions, events, and special projects.

Compensation:

  • $25 per hour (commensurate with experience)
  • Full-time, 35-40 hours per week. Benefits (medical, dental, and vision) available after the introductory employment period. Overtime may be required during busy weeks. Benefits (health/dental/vision) included in the position after a 3 month period.
